群馬県生まれ。1985年東京藝術大学音楽学部作曲専攻卒業。1987年同大学院音楽研究科修士課程作曲専攻修了、第1回カルロス・チャヴェス国際作曲コンクール第1位受賞（メキシコ）。1988年日本交響楽振興財団第10回作曲賞受賞、今日の音楽第3回作曲賞入選。1994年第1回ヌオーヴェ・シンクロニエ国際作曲コンクール入選（イタリア）。1996年文部省在外研究員（フィンランド国立シベリウス・アカデミー）、上毛新聞社主催上毛芸術奨励賞受賞。1999年第9回ジーノ・コンティッリ国際作曲コンクール入選、名誉の楯受賞（イタリア）。2000年アジア音楽週間2000 in横浜入選。2001年フェデレーション・ミュージック・ウィーク入選（オーストラリア）。
主要作品：ピアノとオーケストラのための「織姫」(1983)、ピアノ・ソロとオーケストラのための「アステリオン」(1987)、ハープ協奏曲第１番「クリスタリゼーション」(1997)、オーケストラのための「コンステレーション」(1998)、オーケストラのための「アストラエア」(2011)、ハープ協奏曲第４番 (2015)
現在、愛知県立芸術大学音楽学部作曲専攻教授、名古屋音楽大学非常勤講師。
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Gumma. Graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and holds the master’s degree in Arts. Akira Kobayashi has received numerous prizes in International competitions and awards: First Prize at the 1st International Carlos Chavez Prize competition for Young Composers (1987), First Prize the at 10th Composition Prize competition sponsored by the Japan Symphony Foundation (1987), finalist at the 3rd Music Today Composition Prize (1988), finalist at the 1st Nuove Sincronie International Composition Competition (1994), Arts Prize sponsored by the Jomo Newspaper Publishing Company (1996) and Honorary Plaque at the 9th International Gino Contilli Composition Competition (1999). His music was performed at the Asia Music Week 2000 in Yokohama and Federation Music Week, Contemporary Music of Australia and Asia Pacific in 2001. In 1996, he studied at the Sibelius Academy with Prof. Paavo Heininen as a research fellow on an academic grant received from the Japanese government. Representative Works: “Orihime” for piano and Orchestra (1983), “Asterion” for Piano-solo and Orchestra (1987), Harp Concerto No.1 “Crystallization” (1997), “Constellation” for Orchestra (1998), “Astraea” for Orchestra (2011), Harp Concerto No. 4 (2015). Currently Akira Kobayashi is professor of composition at Aichi University of the Arts.
